Bistro Mint

Bistro Mint is the result of an extensive, yet sensitive refurbishment of the first floor space of The Mint, facing Macquarie Street.

Once forming the southern wing of Governor Macquarie’s notorious Rum Hospital and later part of the first overseas branch of London’s Royal Mint, the building is steeped in history. The coining factory which was once located behind the restaurant, shipped in pieces from England during the height of the gold rushes, and contained the most cutting-edge technology in the colony.

In this award-winning redevelopment of Sydney CBD’s oldest public building and historic coining factory, past and present truly co-exist. The building’s Georgian architecture has now been combined with a quintessentially Parisian atmosphere; with Bistro Mint exemplifying the antiquity of The Mint while ensuring a contemporary evolution from the previous, award-winning Sydney Mint Café.

Furnishings and decoration inside are inspired by the steep historic value of The Mint and include wooden floors, comfortable seating, vintage leather trims, ornate mirrors, and fresh flowers. Guests can enjoy intimate dining spaces and a front row seat to the kitchen, creating a place to truly connect with.

The elegant, colonnaded outdoor balcony space ensures guests can take advantage of Sydney’s calm and inviting climate, while being protected by a covered ceiling and iconic Australian verandah styling.
